Meet Our Staff

Dr. Brett Spencer, DVM
Dr Brett Spencer DVM is a 1990 graduate of Oklahoma state school of VM and provided mixed animal care at Tishomingo Animal Clinic in Oklahoma for 3 years after graduation. After spending one year at Argyle Animal Hospital, he then joined Lamesa Veterinary Associates in Pilot point TX for over a year.
In August 1995, Dr Spencer started Midpoint equine medical center of Pilot point tx. After 20 years of providing equine reproduction, medicine, and lameness evaluation thru MEMC, he and his wife began Hooves & Paws Pet Hospital in Aubrey,TX in June of 2015. HPPH grew to a 5 doctor practice within 8 years, but Dr Spencer prefers the small town environment to develop relationships such as Gunter, TX.
He and his family live on 400 acres with horses, cattle, cats, and plenty of dogs. “ Family, friends, fun, food and The Lord are important to me.”

Taylor, Veterinary Technician
Taylor has been a veterinary technician for three years where she started working with Dr. Shelton and now works with Dr. Spencer in our Gunter office. She has always had an interest in caring for animals and working in the veterinary field. Outside of the clinic she enjoys hiking with her dog Chuck.

Vic, Veterinary Technician
Vic has been a veterinary technician since 2010, but his passion for working with animals started much earlier. After graduating high school in 1995, he began his career as a kennel technician, gaining hands-on experience in animal care. Over the years, he worked his way up, expanding his skills and knolwedge in veterinary medicine.
For Vic, caring for animals isn’t just a job — it’s a calling. He takes pride in providing compassionate care , helping pets live healthier lives and supporting the people who love them. Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to work with some incredible veterinary professionals and deeply values the teams he has been a part of.
At home, Vic’s three dogs — Bandito (Chihuahua), Maximus (Dachsund), and Canelo (Boxer) — keep him busy with their unique personalites. Outside of work, his greatest joy comes from his two children, both of whom are in college and pursuing their own paths.
Whether in the clinic or at home, Vic’s life revolves around caring for animals and the people who love them, and wouldn’t have it any other way.

Monique, Receptionist
Monique is our receptionist. Having a veterinarian and a registered veterinary technician as parents, she was born into veterinary medicine. She started her career as a veterinary technician in emergency medicine and then transitioned to general practice in 2015 where she first met Dr. Spencer. She now considers herself a retired technician and enjoys working at the front desk. Her passion is providing great, helpful and friendly service to the clients here at Shelton Veterinary Hospital. She has 3 grown children and a lot of dogs and cats!

Madison, Veterinary Technician
Madison has been a veterinary technician for seven years, beginning her journey at Refinery Road Vet Clinic in Gainesville before moving to Hooves and Paws Pet Hospital in Aubrey. Over the years, she has developed a strong passion for surgery and lab work, with a special connection in caring for surgical patients during recovery. She treats every patient as if they were her own, ensuring they feel comfortable, safe, and loved while in the clinic’s care.
Outside of work, Madison stays busy with her young son, sharing a love for the outdoors and all the animals that come with it. At home, she has two dogs, a cat, and two horses, and open to having many others!

Preventive/Wellness Medicine
Vaccines, heartworm testing, heartworm prevention, flea & tick prevention for all your domestic animals to prevention illness and keep your friend safe from contagious diseases are available at Shelton Veterinary Hospital.
Dentistry
At SVH, we have the latest in dental equipment and ability to scale, polish and extract the problem teeth of our cats and dogs. Gas anesthesia and patient heart monitoring is standard at SVH for insurance of your family friends health during the procedure.
Soft Tissue Surgery
Orthopedic Surgery
ACL/knee repair called TPLO and other orthopedic surgeries are frequently done and with great care at Shelton Veterinary Hospital.
Preventive Surgery
Spaying your female puppy/kitten or neutering your male dog or cat or other animal is a mainstay of our practice at SVH.
General Medicine
Vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, head shaking ear infections, itchy allergy skin, anal gland disease are just a few of the disease entities we see everyday. If an animal needs to be hospitalize then that patient will remain in our care for overnight treatment.
Endocrine Medicine
Diagnosing and treating thyroid disease, Cushing’s, diabetes insipidus, diabetes mellitus and other hormone related disease is something we do at Shelton Veterinary Hospital.
Emergency Medicine
Although we aren’t currently open 24 hours, we do try to answer the phone to give you peace of mind that your family friend will be seen at the next available time. We will also be able to advise you on what needs to be done immediately to insure the health of your pet.

What to Expect on Your First Visit
Step 1
After filling out the online new client and patient forms and scheduling the appointment for your family friend, you will arrive at SVH at your scheduled appointment time and be warmly greeted by a staff member.
Step 2
The receptionist will take your fluffy friends’ weight and move you to an exam room where a veterinary technician will take a history and define the reason for your visit. The technician may make recommendations as to laboratory work, bloodwork or x rays to be performed based on the initial history.
Step 3
A veterinarian will arrive and ask more questions, listen to your story and perform a thorough exam of your pet. Once all the exams and diagnostics have been implemented, the veterinarian will present you with a recommended treatment plan or vaccination list with options to make the best medical decision for your four legged family member.
Step 4
Whether the answer is surgery, medications or vaccinations, our veterinary team will then setup surgery, fill prescriptions, or give vaccines as needed and approved by you. Your technician will the go over any discharge instructions and explain how and when to give the medications.
